Onyx is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz and ranges in colours such as honey, whites, red, greens and blacks. Unlike granite and marble, Onyx is translucent and allows light to pass through it.  It is more commonly used in freestanding sinks and basins but also suits as funky stylish decorative stone for commercial or private use. One way to highlight its translucent properties is to install under cabinet lighting that gives the illusion of a ‘glowing’ sink or panel. Onyx is quite a soft stone and as with most natural stone requires the use of a sealant.
